The Joyful Noise performed in Coaldale Canadian Reformed Church last fall on behalf
of Rehoboth's ministry in southern Alberta.
What keeps a choir going for so many years? An ongoing interest by hundreds of Edmonton children - including some of the children of those who were in the choir when it started.
Since 1978, the choir has maintained a close partnership with Rehoboth. Recordings, tours and worship services have allowed the children to encourage public support of Rehoboth's ministries. This year's 30th anniversary will allow former choir members and the community to join in remembering and celebrating the gifts that children can bring to worship and a cause such as Rehoboth Camp.
Rein Selles, Director, indicated that the invitation to Ken Medema to participate was important for two reasons: "First, we wanted to give interested children and adults who have been involved in the choir a chance to share their memories and hear those memories sung back in a song. Second, we asked Ken to write a song for this year's choir and to come and join us in presenting it as a new hymn for celebrating God's faithfulness.
Edmonton's West End Christian Reformed
Church originally encouraged the choir's formation and will welcome the choir with Ken for a celebration service November 9 at 10:00 AM. "This will give us an opportunity to thank the congregation and God for all he has done for and through the choir," said Selles.
Seniors (and grandparents) have also been a special part of the joint ministry. As part of the anniversary, the choir will tour to Woodynook CRC, Lacombe on November 1 to provide a unique Seniors Tea for seniors from Lacombe, Ponoka, Rimbey and Red Deer churches. Seating is limited so seniors will be requested to reserve seats. Local church bulletins will provide more information in October.
Anniversary plans include a live recording of the music presented by the choir, Ken and other special guests over the weekend. All proceeds from the celebrations will be presented to Rehoboth.
